The Basic Rider Course is the best introduction to riding. It's aimed at beginning riders of all ages. A minimum of six hours of classroom instruction prepares the student for at least nine hours of practical riding in a controlled, off street parking lot that is free of obstacles and traffic. Motorcycles and helmets are provided. Here at VSI, we highly encourage new riders to take this course. It will provide them with the essential knowledge needed to ride safetly.
We recommend you purchase your own helmet before the class to ensure proper fit. You'll need it any way once you're a licensed rider. In the classroom, you will learn about different types of motorcycles, their controls, how they operate and how to become a responsible rider. Your RiderCoach™ will advise you on what gear to wear for protection and comfort. You'll find out how alcohol and other drugs adversely affect your ability to ride safety. The course concludes with a knowledge test and a riding skills evaluation. Once your RiderCoach™ hands you the course completion card you'll be happy knowing that you've gone the extra mile to develop your own safe riding techniques. This course meets the Arizona MVD written and riding test requirements. A course completion certificate enables you to become an endorsed motorcycle operator without taking the written or skills test at an Arizona Motor Vehicle Department. Students who take this class in California will be issued a DL389 which waives the riding skills evaluation of DMV. Course tuition is $250.00. In order to receive your motorcycle endorsement, you must take the class in the state your drivers license is issued unless you have contacted your state's motor vehicle division. VSI accepts no responsibility for your state's motrocycle endorsement requirements.
